Who We Are

Tom Swartz

Tom was born in East London, Eastern Cape and formed the now  legendary Swartz Brothers Band, which still  appear reguraly at shows and on radio (RSG).

He  still feature on all there CDs, which are recorded in Johannesburg.

Left East London for Johannesburg in 1975 on promotion. Played in different bands before being promoted  to Ladysmith. Played in a country band in and around the area( Blyth’s Barn).

Promoted to Bloemfontein where he played in several bands and appeared on SABC. Promoted to Johannesburg and did inhouse training at the companies training college.

Promoted  to head office where he retired after 30 years with the company.

Studied to become an estate agent and for an  auctioneers diploma  and is now recognised as a Proffessional Principal Estate Agent by the EAAB.

He and his wife Susan,  opened Sunward Guest House in Sunward Park Boksburg in 2002. The establisment is now graded as 3 star by the South AfricanTourim Board.

They hosted the Soccer  World Cup guests from all over the world in 2010.

Tom, Paul and Themba  met at  the monthly Ekurhuleni Tourism Meetings and identifieid that there was need to

unite business for tourism. They decided to form the company AFTRAV.

Paul Nissen

Paul was born in Pretoria, where he grew up and attended Pretoria Boys High. 

As a young man he supported his father in the electronics industry.  His father then started the first SATV training school and magazine, where Paul also worked with him.  

He always had an underlying love of music, so it was no surprise when he was invited to join the well known group called 4 Jacks and a Jill.  Whilst playing with them he wrote quite a few music pieces for them, and still does write music. 

He then joined Tedelex, where he started a new musical instrument division called Casio, which soon grew to be the biggest musical instrument division in South Africa. 

17 years ago, Paul decided to start his own business together with his late wife, Ingrid, namely a small guest house which started with two bedrooms.  To date it has grown into a fully fledged hotel, with 38 bedrooms, 2 conference centers and a restaurant providing a la carte meals.

 He and two others realized that there was a need to come up with a means of promotion for tourism.  The concept then was born, namely Aftrav.  They have received a lot of interest in this concept.
